Rap
The first genre I'll be looking at is rap, rap magazine covers and what's on them that typically makes them a rap magazine.
Below I found this image.

As you can see, it's a rap cover. I think that what stands out in this is what he's wearing. He has the typical rapper look, with the hat, the chain necklace, tattoos, jewelry, belt, and so on. This is however one of the less explicit covers, but I also found that allot of the rapper covers would be showing as much of their chest area and muscles as possible, in order to make them look manly and more gangsta-like. Not only that, but I also found that allot of the rap covers tend to have black males on, because from a stereotypical point of view, being black (and wearing such clothing) suggests that you're most likely some sort of rapper. Not only does the model help determine what kind of cover this is, but the title also says "cocaine, heroine, prison" all of which is stereotypically seen as a rapper/gangsta thing to be doing.
Pop
So here we can tell that this person is Lady Gaga, and so that it must be some sort of pop/electronic magazine, but what makes it this specific genre?
Well, lets look at the model first, Lady Gaga, she has a very good fashion sense (some of the time) and I think that what makes this a pop cover, is the pose that she's in, allot of the pop magazine covers tend to have female popstar models dressed in expensive designer clothes, putting some of their body on display, whilst giving the distinct impression that they are royal, wealthy, and pretty much better than anyone else. And tend to have the same kind of "stare at the camera like you're unimpressed" look. Most of the covers tend to have female models too, I found that the model must have the looks, be willing to show some of their body, and be able to pull some form of seductive facial pose. In terms of the magazine graphics however, alot of them tend to have big stars like the one you can see in this one, that usually contain jaw-dropping information Like 5 huge...posters...nevermind... and uses explanation mark(s).
Here is another example.

What do these covers have in common? Well, a fair amount of skin is on display, the models are the center of attention, and they both are showing fashionable clothes, aka sponsorships, and they also somewhat objectify women.
This one specifically (which is a lot less explicit that some of the others) shows her pulling the side of her jacket down, as if she's about to reveal something. A lot of the pop magazines tend to have something like this, a model in just underwear for example, or completely naked but censored by the magazines graphics. This is to draw in an audience, females will look at the models and go "oh wow she looks so nice" and will want to know what the model is half wearing, and men on the otherhand are inclined to buy such magazines.
