5 - Language Register

What is a Language Register?

The Language Register is essentially a 'dictionary' for a magazines specific style. It's what you would write on the magazine that suits the style of the magazine.

For example, this rap magazine, you can see "cocaine, heroin, prison" written at the top because it's a rap magazine, and these things go with the rap style. This however wouldn't be appropriate to do on a fashion and pop magazine, as they are extremely remote topics from each other and would not go well together.

The choice of informal and formal language may also vary on the chosen style, if it is a fashion / news magazine like 'OK' then you'll find slag abbreviations such as 'OMG! KATY PERRY!..'

For my magazine, I'll need to carefully think of what text will be going on the magazine, and whether or not it should have a formal or informal style of writing.
